The Bath & West Show

The Bath & West Show Documentary

I am a creative and detail-oriented Video Editor with 10 years of experience in editing high-quality video content for various platforms, genres & sectors . This includes web, documentary, promo, live event, time-lapse, heritage, education and corporate productions. I am proficient in utilising industry-standard software to produce compelling visuals and enhance storytelling. I have a proven ability to collaborate with directors, producers, and other creatives to deliver engaging video content that meets client goals and exceeds expectations.

In the most recent years I have honed my documentary editing skills. This spans across identifying key themes, finding patterns, editing down hours of interview footage and applying appropriate editing techniques to convey complex messages, designed to engage the target audience. Another part of my work over the past few years has consisted of creating explainer infographic animations, working with a graphic designer to create storyboards.

Core Skills

Professional Experience

Editor / Filmmaker, Chantry Group - Jul 2021 - Nov 2024

With experience producing over 50 franchise videos and editing numerous franchisee interviews for clients such as Dyno-Rod, TaxAssist, Right At Home, Laser Clinics, Zerorez & Schmidt - within this role I developed a strong understanding of how to create videos that capture the attention of a variety of niche audiences, while honing my documentary storytelling skills.

Utilising Adobe Aftereffects & Illustrator, I also created animation explainer films for clients such as Dyno-Rod, NIC Group & Ableworld. During this role I was also a camera operator and production assistant on multiple film shoots, working with actors and interview subjects.

Editor & Camera Operator, Floating Harbour Films, Feb 2019- Sep 2020

Working within a team as an editor and colourist on a wide range of documentary and promotional productions.

Work included docupromos for Bristol University, live event production & promos for TEDxBristol 2019, drama adverts for National Rail, colourgrading for Wildscreen, promotional material for Sustrans, multi live streaming for WECA & Accounting Excellence, live idents and heavy data management for The International Judo Federation Düsseldorf 3 day tournament.

Another part of my role was camera operation, managing equipment hire bookings and maintaining equipment.

Editor, Camera Operator Director & Co-Founder, Hall & Gaines, Jan 2017 - Oct 2020

Creating mini-documentaries, promotional films, and informative videos for a range of clients (primarily in the heritage sector). During this time we produced the highest engaging video for the National Trust in 2016, alongside documenting Danny Boyles’ ‘Pages Of the Sea’. We also created videos for Southwest Heritage Trust and the American Museum & Gardens.

These videos created high social media engagement and increased increased visitor numbers for the tourist attractions, exhibitions and events. Other clients featured Extract Coffee & Bristol City Council. Within this role I worked alongside my business parter on concepting, directing and producing, creating proposals, quotes and budget sheets. I would also shoot and edit the films, and on occasion direct drone pilots.

Filmmaker, Reuben Gaines, 2012 - Present

Bringing extensive experience in shooting and editing films across diverse genres, I manage and work in all stages of the production process, from client liaison, concepting, project planning and camera work to editing and final delivery. I have worked on documentaries, promos, time-lapses and photographs for a range of areas including craft, property development, corporate, education, charity, community based projects and music.

Within the freelance world I have worked for companies in specific roles as an editor, colourist, camera operator and photographer.

Content Producer Intern, Tyntesfield, June 2016 - January 2017

I implemented the 2016 marketing plan by blending the National Trust’s core values with my creative skills to produce compelling content tailored to NT audience segments, boosting engagement both online and offline. Through this process, I built strong, creative relationships with NT staff, collaborating on diverse film, photography, and social media projects, including event documentation and focused shoots. This included directing and editing the highest engaging National Trust video of 2016 ‘Explore Tyntesfield’ Summer video.

Founder, VALV, 2012 - 2014

During my third and final year of university I created a business plan for a music video production company & website. I pitched the project in the form of an in person presentation and written business plan to a panel of potential funders. This resulted in securing £1000 of funding and a summer ‘entrepreneurship’ with UWE Enterprise. Following this I won ‘Entrepreneur Of The Year’, and received an additional £250 of funding. The VALV YouTube channel went on to accumulate 186,739k (and counting) views.

Within the company I directed, produced, shot & edited a series of Live Sessions for ‘The Gallimaufry’, a popular music venue in Bristol. I won this project by creating a proposal and budget for the client and sponsors (Tiger Beer). In addition to this I created 2 other sets of live sessions, one filmed at UWE in the TV studio (The Ship Sessions) and another in Brighton (Pressed Sessions). Each of these projects had different budgets, variables and restrictions to work with, however we still managed to work within the different parameters to produce multiple series of videos that all of the artists and organisers were pleased with.

Interview cut down

During this interview the interviewee was nervous and tired, which meant that the interview required a fair bit of cutting down and rearranging sentences to make it make sense, concise and digestible. In this video I show the original interview clips I had to work with for certain scenes and the final edits for the scene.
